I was asked to enter a piece in an auction, Sunflowers for Solidarity, to raise funds for Individual First Aid Kits (IFAK) for Ukrainian soldiers to help in the war against the invasion by Putin's Russia.
I was inspired to create this piece after hearing President Zelensky's plea to US Congress and the video footage that was shown. I wanted to express the anger and anxiety I felt as the result of the extreme hardships levied on the Ukrainian people. No one should not be subjected to such barbaric cruelty!
I was so happy that my piece was sold after considerable bidding! The auction, which took place in a Ukrainian Community Center in Buffalo, NY, raised $35,000! Slava Ukraini!
